The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received two 100MVA power transformers for installation at its ongoing 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Katsina State, in a move aimed at strengthening the national grid and improving electricity supply across the North-West.

The transformers were delivered to the TCN Kano Region on July 9 as part of the company’s strategic grid expansion programme designed to reinforce transmission infrastructure and enhance bulk power delivery.

According to TCN, the transformers are key components required for the completion of the Katsina substation and, once installed, tested and commissioned, will increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).

The company said the project would improve the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of power transmission while increasing its capacity to evacuate more bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina State and neighbouring areas.

TCN noted that the substation forms part of its nationwide transmission expansion and modernisation projects aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s electricity network to meet rising energy demand.

It added that the completion and energisation of the facility would strengthen grid stability, support improved power supply to consumers and contribute to ongoing efforts to expand access to reliable electricity across the country.

The Katsina project is among several transmission infrastructure initiatives being executed by the company to boost grid capacity, modernise critical assets and improve the performance of the national transmission network.
