Groups Kick Against Planned Democracy Day Protest
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A pro-Tinubu group, under the aegis of Green Assembly Initiative and other Youth Bodies have called for the outright cancellation of planned protest ahead of the Democracy Day.
Speaking in Abuja at a press conference, on Wednesday, the chairman of the group, Duke Alamboye, appreciated President Bola Tinubu-led administration for its efforts in sustaining democracy.
According to him, the challenges the nation is facing currently is a temporary phase and protest is not the way to go in addressing them.
Recall that the planned protests are expected to hold in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other major cities across the country.
Alamboye however urged Nigerian youth to keep praying for the leaders and be law-abiding.
“We, the Green Assembly Initiative and other youth bodies, would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians and the leadership of the present government for sustaining democracy in our country. We appreciate the efforts of the President, his cabinet ministers, governors, elites, youths, and women in ensuring the continuity of our democratic system.
“While acknowledging the challenges we face as a nation, we recognize that developed countries have also navigated similar paths before achieving growth and stability. As youth leaders, we urge all Nigerians to take a moment to pray for our country, the presidency, and government at all levels.
“In light of reports suggesting planned protests in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, we want to categorically state that we are not part of these plans and urge all Nigerian youths to remain peaceful and law-abiding,” Alamboye said.
Emphasizing the significance of unity, he called on security agencies to arrest anyone caught disrupting the peace of the nation on Democracy Day.
“We call on security agencies to be vigilant and apprehend anyone attempting to disrupt peace and stability in our country.
As we celebrate our Democracy Day tomorrow, June 12, we wish to emphasize the importance of unity and cooperation. We bless Nigeria, thank our leaders, and wish all Nigerians a joyous and peaceful Democracy Day,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the youth bodies, the Speaker, Ndigbo Youths Parliament, Rikki Nwajiofor, commended the President for taking a bold step toward rebuilding the nation and appealed to Nigerian youth to be patient with him.
“I’ve always maintained that a building built on a faulty foundation can never thrive. He came in as President. He saw that Nigeria had been built on a faulty foundation, so he decided to pull it down and have a formidable foundation.
“It’s not going to be easy. He didn’t promise it would be easy, but he promised that at the end of the day, we’d all smile. Please, Nigerian youth, we are begging you. There is no need to take to the streets. Let’s exercise more patience for our President. He has the good of our youth at heart.
“We all know, for the first time in Nigerian history, we have a youth who is the Minister of Youth. We have youths who are occupying juicy positions in his government.
“Please, tomorrow, if there will be any march, it’s a march of solidarity in support of what our President is doing to reposition our country, Nigeria,” Nwajiofor appealed.
