APC National Chairman, Ganduje Resigns

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reportedly resigned his position.

Although the reason for the resignation of the former Governor of Kano State is not yet clearly made known, it is believed that he took the decision at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the early hours of Friday.

His aides were sighted packing his personal belongings from his office at the national secretariat of the party located at number 41 Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

An official of the party who confirmed the development said; “You can see, they have removed the portrait of Ganduje from his office. Even his personal staff have been moving in and out with files and their personal properties since morning.

“So it’s obvious that all is not well. We are not new to this development. We saw it happen when Abdullahi Adamu and Oshiomhole were there. So we are used to this kind of thing.”

Ganduje, who was a close ally of President Tinubu, was appointed national chairman on 3 August 2023, following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu. On 23 September 2024, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the suit seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

A lawsuit was filed by the North Central APC Forum and led by Saleh Zazzaga, challenging Ganduje’s appointment as APC National Chairman on the grounds that he is from Kano State in the North West geopolitical zone, whereas the position, previously held by Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central, should remain within that region according to the APC Constitution.

In January 2025, President Tinubu appointed him as the board chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), an agency under the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
