BAVCCA, Surveyor-General Partner to Drive Digital Awareness, National Mapping Renewal
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) has expressed readiness to partner with the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) to enhance public enlightenment, digital visibility, and national development through responsible digital storytelling.
The commitment was made when BAVCCA’s leadership, led by its President, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, paid a courtesy visit to the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abdulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Chukwunyere described OSGoF as one of Nigeria’s most strategic yet underappreciated government institutions, given its role in land mapping, boundary demarcation, and geospatial data management.
“Your office lays the foundation for Nigeria’s progress. Unfortunately, many citizens; especially the youth immersed in digital spaces are unaware of how vital your work is to our national development,” he said.
He said BAVCCA, which represents over 5,000 professional bloggers, vloggers, and digital journalists nationwide, was committed to promoting ethical, factual, and developmental content in support of Nigeria’s growth.
According to him, the association plans to collaborate with OSGoF on joint public sensitisation campaigns, a media workshop for content creators on geospatial reporting, and a 2026 national awareness event tagged “Mapping the Future: The Role of Digital Media in Geospatial Development.”
Chukwunyere also welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to extend Adebomehin’s tenure by two years, describing it as a testament to his “transformative reforms” in Nigeria’s geospatial data infrastructure.
He further lauded the repositioning of OSGoF under the Presidency, saying it would “streamline decision-making and enhance the institution’s strategic importance in land governance, mapping and national planning.”
On national issues, Chukwunyere reaffirmed BAVCCA’s commitment to promoting unity and transparency, pledging to use the association’s platforms to advance narratives of “resilience, reconciliation and collective progress.”
In his response, Surveyor-General Adebomehin commended BAVCCA’s initiative, describing the visit as “timely and impactful.” He reiterated the critical role of mapping in governance and national development.
“Whatever you cannot map, you cannot manage,” he declared, showcasing a modern digital railway map connecting Lagos to Calabar as an example of how geospatial technology underpins infrastructure growth.
Adebomehin noted that Nigeria’s last comprehensive mapping exercise took place more than five decades ago, stressing the need for an updated national remapping project to align with international standards.
He also urged professionals in the geospatial sector to take greater interest in politics and public service, stating, “Until we start thinking beyond self, we will remain under-developed as a nation.”
Both institutions agreed to establish a formal partnership framework to strengthen public awareness, advance geospatial innovation, and promote digital governance for national development.
