INEC Denies Issuing PDP Ekiti Congress Letter

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a letter circulating on social media alleging that the Commission approved a postponement of the Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The document, dated November 10, 2025, was said to contain resolutions of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting and was purportedly signed by the Secretary to the Commission.

But INEC, in a statement signed on Friday, by its Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, said the letter was fake and did not originate from any of its official channels.

According to the Commission, preliminary investigations showed that the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by “unscrupulous elements” in an attempt to mislead the public and distort the electoral process.

INEC urged political parties, the media and Nigerians to disregard the letter, describing its circulation as a serious electoral offence capable of disrupting public trust.

“The said correspondence did not emanate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission, nor any official channel of INEC,” the statement read.

The Commission also warned individuals involved in producing or circulating doctored documents to desist, stressing that such actions undermine electoral integrity and could attract legal consequences.

Meanwhile, INEC said it is working with security agencies to investigate the forgery and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
