Oluwafemi Commends Tinubu’s Ambassadorial Postings, Calls for Results-Driven Diplomacy

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A leading international development expert and member of the Nigerian diaspora, Sir Victor Oluwafemi, KJW, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for approving the posting of ambassador-designates to key foreign missions, describing the move as timely and strategic for Nigeria’s foreign policy.

Oluwafemi said the postings provide an opportunity to reposition Nigeria’s diplomacy to deliver measurable national benefits, particularly in investment, trade, and diaspora engagement.

He urged the newly appointed envoys to adopt a modern, results-driven approach that focuses on outcomes rather than protocol.

According to him, Nigeria’s foreign missions should embrace the Policy as a Platform (PaaP) and Results as a Service (RaaS) frameworks to translate goodwill into tangible gains.

He explained that PaaP helps convert national priorities into clear mission workflows, while RaaS provides a quarterly scorecard to track performance in areas such as investment leads, partnerships, trade outcomes, and consular service delivery.

“Diplomacy must be more than protocol. It must translate into investment pipelines, trade opportunities, diaspora confidence, and a reputation lift that is backed by delivery,” Oluwafemi said.

He stressed that the ambassador-designate to the United States, in particular, has a critical role to play, given Washington’s importance to Nigeria’s investment drive and diaspora relations. He noted that similar delivery standards should also apply to Nigeria’s missions in London and Paris.

Oluwafemi proposed a three-point agenda for Nigeria’s key missions. He called for the establishment of embassy-convened diaspora and investment councils to bring together diaspora leaders, business groups, and investors in a structured and continuous manner.

He also urged missions to host annual flagship investment and diaspora conferences supported by a deal room to showcase credible opportunities and track progress after such events.

In addition, he advocated the publication of quarterly mission results scorecards to report measurable outcomes such as partnerships secured, investment enquiries progressed, trade facilitation efforts, and improvements in diaspora and consular services.

He said transparent reporting would strengthen credibility and position Nigeria’s diplomacy as outcomes-led.

“Washington should become the benchmark mission by institutionalising delivery workflows and quarterly scorecard reporting, while London and Paris drive the same discipline within their own strategic corridors,” he added.

President Tinubu had earlier approved the posting of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as ambassador-designate to France, Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are as ambassador-designate to the United States of America, and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
