FRSC Dismisses 43 Personnel Over Desertion, Scandalous Conduct

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disengaged 43 personnel from its service over offences ranging from desertion to scandalous conduct and patrol-related misconduct.

The decision was announced in a statement signed on Thursday, by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, the affected officers include 31 dismissed for desertion, five for scandalous behaviour, and seven for patrol-related misconduct.

Describing the move as decisive and uncompromising, the Corps said the action was part of ongoing efforts to uphold discipline and professionalism within the organisation.

“This action, just like others of its kind, sends an unequivocal message because the FRSC badge is a symbol of honour and responsibility. Any officer who chooses to violate the standards of this noble institution will face the full weight of the Corps’ disciplinary machinery,” the statement read.

The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, was quoted as describing the measure as a bold reaffirmation of the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance against indiscipline and ethical violations.

He stressed that the FRSC remains a professional paramilitary organisation guided by strict operational standards and would not condone any behaviour capable of undermining public trust, institutional integrity, or the objectives of the Corps.

The Corps Marshal further explained that desertion represents a serious breach of service oath and operational responsibility, particularly for an agency charged with safeguarding millions of road users daily.

“Desertion represents a grave breach of service oath and operational responsibility, particularly in a safety-critical organisation entrusted with protecting the lives of millions of road users daily,” he stated.

He added that scandalous behaviour and patrol misconduct directly erode public confidence and contradict the core values of discipline, transparency, and service excellence upheld by the Corps.

The FRSC management assured Nigerians that it would continue to strengthen internal monitoring mechanisms, enhance supervisory frameworks, and promote ethical reorientation across all commands nationwide.

The statement emphasised that the Corps remains committed to building a professional workforce driven by integrity, discipline, and operational excellence.

The Corps also called on the motoring public to sustain their confidence in the FRSC and continue supporting its mandate of creating safer roads across the country.
