Father Sentenced to 14 Years for Raping His Two Daughters

A 51-year-old commercial driver and mechanic, Okon Jimmy Ama from Ikot Ekop in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, has been jailed for 14 years after being convicted of raping his two biological daughters.

The Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, presided over by Hon. Justice Winifred Effiong, delivered the verdict on Thursday, February 20, 2026.

The court found Ama guilty on multiple counts stemming from repeated sexual assaults on his daughters, who were 13 and 16 at the time of the incidents in 2015.

Prosecution evidence detailed how Ama had carnal knowledge of the girls on several occasions. It also emerged that he beat one daughter with a car fan belt before disposing of it in a pit toilet.

Justice Effiong sentenced Ama to seven years each on counts 1 and 2 for incest by a male, three years for assault occasioning harm, and 14 years for rape.

The terms will run concurrently, meaning he faces a maximum of 14 years behind bars.

Ofonime Idio, Esq., Chief State Counsel from the Ministry of Justice who prosecuted the case, hailed the ruling as “a strong statement against sexual abuse and a victory for justice in Akwa Ibom State.”
