Police Arrest Two Constable Applicants Over Forged NECO Results

The Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi has arrested two applicants seeking enlistment as constables after they were allegedly found with forged results from the National Examinations Council (NECO) during an ongoing recruitment screening exercise.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, Nafiu Habib.

According to him, the incident occurred at the Police Training School Bauchi where candidates were undergoing screening as part of the nationwide recruitment of 50,000 constables.

Habib explained that the exercise was supervised by A.Y. Dickson, who led the team responsible for verifying the credentials of applicants at the centre.

He said a total of 403 candidates were screened during the exercise, including 354 applying for general duty roles and 49 specialist applicants.

During the verification process, however, two candidates were reportedly discovered to have presented forged NECO results.

Habib added that the suspects, who both identified themselves as Yusuf Usman, had been moving together throughout the screening before their documents were flagged as fake.

“The team screened 354 General Duty and 49 Specialists, making a total of 403 candidates. Two candidates were arrested with forged NECO results, both named Yusuf Usman, and they were moving together throughout the process,” he said.

The police spokesman stated that the head of the screening team subsequently ordered that the suspects be handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of ‘E’ Division for further investigation.

He warned prospective applicants against attempting to manipulate recruitment procedures through fraudulent means.

The screening exercise forms part of the ongoing nationwide recruitment drive aimed at adding 50,000 new constables to the Nigeria Police Force.
