Trump Suspends Strikes on Iranian Power Plants After Talks

U.S. President, Donald Trump

President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will postpone any military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, citing “very good and productive conversations” between US and Iranian officials.

He made the announcement via his social media platform, Truth Social.

The decision follows Iran’s warning that it would completely close the Strait of Hormuz if Trump carried out his earlier threat to bomb Tehran’s power plants. The original 48-hour ultimatum, issued on Saturday, was set to expire on Monday.

Trump’s announcement prompted a sharp drop in global oil prices, which fell by more than 13 percent.

Last week, prices had surged past $100 per barrel as Iranian attacks on vessels disrupted passage along the critical waterway.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reiterated its hardline stance, warning that any US attacks on Iranian energy facilities could lead to the destruction of companies with US shares.

They also said that power plants in countries hosting US bases would be legitimate targets.

Although Iran has not publicly confirmed talks with the US, multiple countries reportedly stepped up diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.

The conflict has affected allies including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
