NDC Gains Ground as Dickson Hosts Stakeholders, Aspirants

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) appears to be gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, as its National Leader, Seriake Dickson, intensified nationwide consultations by hosting party stakeholders and aspirants from across the country.

Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, received delegations from Gombe, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday in Abuja, urging them to deepen grassroots mobilisation and expand the party’s reach.

Among the visitors were party leaders from Gombe State, led by the National Vice Chairman, Dr. Danlami Arabs, and the National Women Leader, Mrs Dudu Manuga. The delegation also presented a governorship aspirant, Dr Babayo Ardo, who met with the national leadership for consultations.

Speaking during the engagement, Dickson commended the efforts of party officials in Gombe, describing the state chapter as being on the right track.

“Gombe is on course and doing well. I commend the state officials for their efforts and enjoin them to step up mobilisation across the state,” he said.

The NDC leader also received a delegation from Nasarawa State led by the state chairman, Hon. Dogo Shammah, a former Commissioner for Information who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party.

Dickson described the development as a positive sign for the party’s growth, noting that Nasarawa was making steady progress.

“Nasarawa is doing well and progressing strongly, and I commend them for their efforts while urging them to continue mobilisation for the NDC,” he added.

The Nasarawa delegation included the State Secretary, Hon. Osokunu, a former council chairman.

In a related development, a group of young party members and an aspirant for the House of Representatives in the FCT, Hon. Jesse Williams Ejemot, also visited the NDC leader to express support for the party’s vision.

Dickson emphasised the need for inclusiveness, particularly encouraging the participation of youths and women in the party’s activities and leadership structure.

“The NDC is open to all aspirants, particularly young people and women. Everyone who desires change is welcome on board,” he said.

He further urged Nigerians to take advantage of the party’s ongoing nationwide membership registration, stressing that broader participation would strengthen the NDC’s chances ahead of the next general elections.

“We encourage everyone to take advantage of the ongoing nationwide membership registration to register and become members of the NDC,” he said.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment to national development, Dickson said the NDC was focused on building a strong, inclusive and people-driven political movement capable of delivering meaningful change.

“Together, we will build a strong, inclusive, and people-driven political movement that delivers real change for all Nigerians,” he said, while thanking Nigerians for their growing confidence in the party.

Political observers believe the sustained consultations and influx of new members signal a strategic effort by the NDC to position itself as a formidable force in the 2027 elections.
