Arewa APC Forum Withdraws Support for Tinubu’s Re-election Bid
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Arewa APC Forum in Kano State has announced the withdrawal of its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing what it described as concerns over governance direction and public accountability.
The position was contained in a statement signed on Friday by the Forum’s Chairman, Dr. Sallah Hakilu Kibiya, and made available to journalists.
In the statement, the group said the decision followed what it called “extensive consultations and careful reflection” on developments at the federal level, adding that it could no longer continue to back the President’s re-election ambition in good conscience.
“The Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter, hereby formally announces the withdrawal of its support for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
It added that the Forum’s decision was informed by its assessment of governance performance, alleging concerns around nepotism, incompetence, and corruption.
“We can no longer, in good conscience, continue to lend support to an administration widely criticised for nepotism, incompetence, and corruption,” it stated.
The Forum stressed that leadership must be anchored on fairness, institutional integrity, and national unity, warning that failure to uphold these principles undermines public trust.
“We believe that leadership must inspire confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and responsible governance. Where these values are persistently undermined, silence becomes complicity,” it added.
According to the group, the withdrawal of support reflects a shift in its political stance within the All Progressives Congress (APC), and members have been advised to align with the new position in all future political engagements.
It described the announcement as a matter of public interest and democratic accountability, insisting that it remains committed to what it called the broader aspirations of Nigerians for good governance.
“This statement is issued in the public interest and in defence of democratic accountability, good governance, and the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people,” the Forum said.
The development adds to growing political realignments within party structures as Nigeria moves closer to the next election cycle, with increasing internal debates over performance, loyalty, and succession politics.
