A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Aare Tolu Bankole, has congratulated Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bankole described the decision by party leaders and stakeholders across the district as a reflection of confidence in the governor’s leadership and political standing within the party.

He said the consensus arrangement followed broad consultations and demonstrated unity among party members, noting that it underscored trust in Abiodun’s ability to represent the district at the National Assembly.

According to him, the governor’s endorsement was “a well-deserved recognition of his impactful leadership and unwavering commitment to the growth and unity of the party.”

Bankole pointed to Abiodun’s record in office, citing developments in infrastructure, economic expansion and social welfare initiatives as key factors that have strengthened his standing among party faithful.

He added that the administration has recorded progress in sectors such as road construction, education, healthcare and industrial development, which he said has enhanced the state’s appeal to investors.

“His track record in public service and private sector experience positions him strongly to offer quality representation at the Senate,” Bankole said.

The APC chieftain also commended stakeholders in Ogun East for adopting a consensus approach, describing it as a sign of political maturity and cohesion within the party.

He said the move would help consolidate the party’s strength ahead of the elections, while promoting internal harmony.

Bankole further pledged his support for the governor’s senatorial ambition, assuring that efforts would be made to mobilise backing across party structures.

He expressed optimism that Abiodun’s potential transition to the Senate would attract greater federal attention and development to Ogun East.

The APC leader urged party members to remain united and focused, adding that the emergence of the governor as consensus candidate reflects the party’s resolve to present experienced leaders for elective positions.
