Interior Ministry Moves to Deepen PPP Adoption, Boost Service Delivery

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Ministry of Interior on Thursday stepped up efforts to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, hosting a sensitisation workshop on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery across its operations.

The capacity-building session brought together directors, technical officers and other stakeholders to deepen understanding of PPP frameworks and explore opportunities for leveraging private sector expertise in line with national development goals.

In her welcome remarks, the Deputy Director, Special Duties, Mrs Adogeri Beloved, said the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms to reposition the ministry for innovation and sustainable growth.

She explained that the workshop was designed to expose staff to modern financing and operational models capable of addressing infrastructure gaps and enhancing public service outcomes.

According to her, adopting PPP strategies would enable the ministry to tap into private sector capacity while improving efficiency and ensuring long-term sustainability in its programmes.

Representing the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Director of Human Resources Management, Mrs. Catherine Zozi, said the ministry remains committed to strengthening its institutional framework through reforms that align with global best practices.

She noted that PPPs have become an important tool for delivering value for money, improving transparency and encouraging innovation in government operations.

The Permanent Secretary, she added, views capacity building as critical to ensuring that officers can effectively design, manage and monitor PPP projects for lasting impact.

In a goodwill message, the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Dr. Johnson Ewalefoh, commended the ministry for taking proactive steps to embrace PPP mechanisms.

He stressed that collaboration between the public and private sectors remains essential for unlocking economic potential and addressing Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges.

Ewalefoh also assured participants of the commission’s continued support, noting that the ICRC would provide the necessary regulatory guidance and technical expertise to ensure that PPP projects deliver public value while maintaining accountability.

The workshop featured technical sessions and expert-led discussions on project structuring, risk management, regulatory compliance and implementation strategies, with participants encouraged to identify viable projects that align with the ministry’s strategic priorities.

Officials said the initiative underscores the ministry’s broader commitment to reforms that promote transparency, efficiency and citizen-focused service delivery through innovative partnerships.
