A coalition within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-Central has called on party faithful and stakeholders across the region to remain united and committed as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal came from the Deputy Director-General of the APC Support Group Council (North Central), Alhaji Lameen Aliyu, during a world press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, where he addressed party leaders, members and the media on the council’s activities and political direction.
Aliyu said the gathering was convened to restate the council’s vision and programmes while also engaging critical issues surrounding party primaries, governance and grassroots mobilisation in the region.
He described the APC Support Group Council (North Central) as a strategic platform designed to coordinate support groups and strengthen political engagement at the grassroots.
According to him, the council serves as a bridge between party leadership, government institutions and the people, ensuring that policies and achievements of the APC-led administration are effectively communicated and supported.
“Our purpose is to serve as a bridge between the party leadership, government institutions, and the grassroots, ensuring that the achievements and aspirations of the APC are effectively communicated and supported by the people,” he said.
Aliyu noted that since its establishment, the council has embarked on a range of activities aimed at consolidating the party’s base in the region. These include membership expansion drives, advocacy visits, town hall meetings, stakeholder consultations and youth and women mobilisation programmes.
He said the efforts had helped to harmonise various support groups across the North-Central into a more coordinated structure, while also strengthening the party’s presence at ward, local government and state levels.
The APC chieftain added that improved communication between party leadership and grassroots members had been a key outcome of the council’s initiatives.
On internal party processes, Aliyu commended the APC leadership for steps taken towards the forthcoming primaries, noting that efforts to ensure fairness, inclusiveness and transparency were encouraging.
He urged aspirants and party stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly and uphold party discipline throughout the process.
“We urge all aspirants and stakeholders to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, and party loyalty,” he said.
Aliyu also expressed support for the policies and reforms of the APC-led federal government under President Bola Tinubu, citing initiatives in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and youth empowerment as indicators of commitment to national development.
He said one of the council’s priorities was to ensure that these programmes are properly communicated to communities through sustained engagement and advocacy.
“We will continue to propagate government policies and ensure that the people at the grassroots understand and benefit from these initiatives,” he added.
The council further commended governors in the North-Central states for what it described as progress in infrastructure development, rural projects and economic empowerment programmes.
Aliyu made special reference to developments in the Federal Capital Territory, praising the Minister, Nyesom Wike, for ongoing infrastructure and urban renewal efforts.
He, however, urged political leaders across the region to sustain development initiatives in order to maintain public confidence and support.
Looking ahead, the council outlined its strategy to include deeper stakeholder collaboration, data-driven mobilisation, continuous membership expansion and policy advocacy.
Aliyu stressed that unity within the party would be critical to achieving electoral success, particularly in the North-Central, which remains a key political zone.
“We call on all support groups, party faithful, youths, women, and stakeholders across the North-Central region to remain united and steadfast in support of our great party,” he said.
He added that collective commitment and discipline would be essential in strengthening the party’s position and securing victory in future elections.
The press conference, held at the Tinubu Support Group office in Maitama, Abuja, drew party stakeholders and members of the APC Support Group Council, who reaffirmed their readiness to work together towards consolidating the party’s gains in the region.
