Women from Kogi Central Senatorial District have collectively purchased the senatorial expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello.
The women, drawn from the five local government areas of the senatorial district, said the decision was a united effort aimed at sustaining Bello’s legacy and ensuring continued representation of their interests at the national level.
They described the gesture as both a show of appreciation for his time in office and a strategic investment in future political direction, stressing that women in the district are becoming more politically conscious and actively involved in shaping electoral outcomes.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Elizabeth Williams said the decision followed extensive consultations among various women’s groups across Kogi Central.
According to her, Bello’s administration recorded significant inclusion of women in governance, including appointments into key positions and empowerment initiatives targeted at improving livelihoods.
She noted that women benefited from programmes in skills acquisition, small-scale business support, and cooperative development, which she said helped expand economic opportunities at the grassroots.
Williams also pointed to improvements in security during Bello’s tenure, arguing that the relative stability enabled many women to return to farming and trading activities.
The group said the purchase of the forms was not only symbolic but also strategic; symbolic in recognising past governance interventions and strategic in consolidating political influence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Responding to the gesture, Bello expressed appreciation to the women, describing their action as humbling and a reminder of public expectations from leaders.
“I see this not just as support, but as a call to greater service,” he said, pledging to prioritise policies that promote gender inclusion, youth empowerment, and economic development if elected to the Senate.
He urged the women to remain united and actively engaged in the democratic process, noting that sustained participation was key to achieving meaningful political and developmental outcomes.
The development adds to early political alignments in Kogi State as parties and stakeholders begin quiet mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
