The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for its third and final phase, urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the window to register or update their details ahead of future elections.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who said the exercise will recommence on May 11 and run through July 10.
INEC explained that the second phase of the registration exercise was suspended in April to allow for the clean-up of the voters’ register following its publication for claims and objections by registrants.
“The third phase of the CVR, which begins on Monday, 11th May, will end on Friday, 10th July,” the commission stated, calling on all eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier phases, to participate.
The commission also advised already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details to either visit INEC offices nationwide or access its online portal.
In continuation of the process, INEC said the updated register will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, in line with statutory requirements aimed at ensuring transparency and credibility.
“This statutory exercise provides an important opportunity for citizens to scrutinise the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness and credibility,” the statement added.
The commission assured Nigerians that adequate arrangements have been put in place for a smooth exercise across the country, stressing the importance of public participation in strengthening the electoral process.
INEC reiterated its appeal to citizens to actively engage in the exercise, noting that voter registration remains a critical step in deepening democracy and ensuring inclusive participation in governance.
