A major documentary project centred on the influence and legacy of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo and the contributions of Nigerian market women to national development is set for unveiling by ARTLIFE MEDIA PRODUCTIONS.
The documentary, titled *The Woman Behind the Voices: Leadership, Legacy and the Market Women of Nigeria*, is being produced by filmmaker and media entrepreneur, Magnus Oku, alongside a companion book expected to document the struggles, resilience and economic influence of women in Nigeria’s informal market sector.
According to the producers, the project aims to preserve the history and cultural significance of market women whose activities have sustained families, communities and local economies for decades.
The documentary is already attracting attention within media and cultural circles ahead of its official unveiling, which is expected to bring together stakeholders from Nollywood, governance, academia, women advocacy groups and the business community.
Speaking on the motivation behind the project, Oku said the initiative was inspired by the need to recognise the sacrifices and leadership roles played by women traders across the country.
“This project is beyond film-making. It is about restoring dignity, preserving history and honouring women whose sacrifices built communities and inspired generations,” he said.
Oku noted that many market women contributed immensely to national development despite operating under harsh economic conditions and limited public recognition.
According to him, generations of women traders trained children through higher institutions, built homes and served as silent pillars of economic survival during difficult periods in the country’s history.
The documentary is expected to feature interviews, historical archives, cinematic storytelling and real-life testimonies from women traders across different regions of Nigeria.
Sources close to the production disclosed that the companion book would contain historical reflections, interviews and motivational lessons drawn from the lives and experiences of market women.
Industry observers believe the project could emerge as one of the most significant documentary archives focused on grassroots women leadership and Nigeria’s informal economy.
Analysts also say the initiative comes at a period when African filmmakers are increasingly embracing socially conscious storytelling aimed at preserving indigenous history and promoting conversations around women empowerment and cultural identity.
Nigeria’s informal market sector remains one of the largest contributors to grassroots commerce in Africa, with women dominating a large share of trading and small-scale commercial activities nationwide.
The unveiling ceremony is expected to attract prominent personalities from the entertainment industry, development organisations, policy circles and international cultural institutions.
ARTLIFE MEDIA PRODUCTIONS, the organisation behind the initiative, has continued to build its reputation around socially impactful African storytelling and cultural preservation projects.
