Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star, Tobi Amusan, continued her strong start to the season on Sunday with a commanding win in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League, clocking 12.28 seconds and setting a new meeting record.
Amusan finished ahead of Devynne Charlton, who placed second in 12.40 seconds, while Nadine Visser came third in 12.47 seconds in a competitive final.
The Nigerian hurdler not only secured victory but also erased her own previous meeting record of 12.45 seconds set at the same venue last season, reinforcing her dominance in Rabat.
Running from lane four, Amusan reacted cleanly to the start and stayed level with her closest rivals over the early hurdles before gradually pulling clear as the race progressed.
By the third hurdle, she had edged into the lead and maintained her rhythm with strong clearance technique and smooth acceleration through the middle phase of the race.
Her superiority became clear approaching the final hurdles as she opened a decisive gap, powering home comfortably while glancing at the clock before crossing the finish line.
The performance marks her first Diamond League win of the current season after earlier podium finishes, signalling an upward trajectory in form ahead of key competitions.
Amusan will next compete at the prestigious Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome on June 4, where she is expected to face another elite field.
The result further strengthens her position as one of the leading figures in women’s sprint hurdles on the global circuit.
