Ogun Poly Expels 365 Students Over Fake Results, Forged Admission Documents

Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, have expelled 365 students for allegedly gaining admission into the institution with forged academic certificates and falsified results.

The decision was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Yemi Ajibola, who said the affected students were discovered during a comprehensive verification exercise conducted on admission and registration documents.

According to the statement, the expelled students were all enrolled in various Higher National Diploma programmes but were found to have presented fake National Diploma results and forged transcripts from different institutions to secure admission.

Ajibola explained that the exercise was part of ongoing efforts by the institution to sanitize the academic environment and enforce strict compliance with admission requirements.

“This decision underscores the institution’s commitment to sanitising the academic system and reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices and other forms of academic misconduct,” he said.

A breakdown of the affected students showed that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number with 156 cases, followed by the School of Business and Management Studies with 117.

The School of Science and Technology accounted for 54 students, while the School of Engineering had 36. The School of Environmental Studies recorded the lowest number with just two affected students.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Koye Jolaoso, warned prospective applicants against the use of fake credentials, stressing that the institution would continue to take decisive action against any form of academic fraud.

He said the move reflects the polytechnic’s resolve to uphold integrity, promote academic excellence and reposition the 47-year-old institution as a model of transparency and professionalism in tertiary education.

The management reiterated that verification of credentials will remain a continuous process aimed at safeguarding the credibility of the institution’s academic standards.
