110 Nigerians Face Deportation as U.S. Repatriates 355 West Africans

Nigeria is set to receive the highest number of deportees among West African countries following the decision of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to remove 355 nationals from the region under an ongoing immigration enforcement operation.

The DHS, through its West Africa Operations Watch (WOW) initiative, on Tuesday released the names and photographs of individuals scheduled for deportation, with Nigerians accounting for 110 of those listed.

The figure places Nigeria at the top of the deportation list among countries in the sub-region and underscores the scale of the latest immigration crackdown by U.S. authorities.

According to details released by the department, Liberia recorded the second-highest number with 94 nationals marked for removal, while Ghana had 30 and Senegal 19.

Other countries affected include Cameroon with 15 deportees, The Gambia and Côte d’Ivoire with 14 each, Mauritania with 12, Cape Verde with 11, Burkina Faso with nine, Niger with eight, Guinea and Togo with six each, Mali with five, while Benin Republic and Guinea-Bissau recorded one deportee each.

The publication of the list forms part of efforts by U.S. immigration authorities to enforce deportation orders against foreign nationals found to be in violation of immigration laws.

Although the DHS did not provide further details on the specific offences or immigration status of those affected, the operation is part of broader measures aimed at tightening immigration enforcement and repatriating undocumented migrants.
