The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has congratulated Heartland Queens on reaching the final of the 2026 President Federation Cup, describing the achievement as a reward for the team’s determination, resilience and consistent hard work.
In a statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, and Secretary, Tunde Liadi, SWAN praised the Owerri-based club for overcoming difficult opponents on their march to the final.
The association expressed confidence that Heartland Queens would make Imo State proud when they take on Nasarawa Amazons in the title decider scheduled for July 11 in Asaba.
SWAN described the club’s impressive run in the competition as a reflection of the growing standard of women’s football in Imo State, urging the players and coaching crew to remain focused as they seek to lift the prestigious trophy.
The association also celebrated Imo-born basketball star, Ugonna Onyenso, following his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, saying the feat has placed both the state and the country on the global sporting map.
According to the statement, Onyenso’s journey from the NBA Academy Africa to the world’s biggest basketball league serves as “a shining example of dedication and excellence” and should inspire young athletes aspiring to build successful careers in sports.
SWAN further urged both Heartland Queens and Onyenso to remain committed to excellence as they continue to represent Imo State on national and international stages.
The association assured them of the continued support and goodwill of sports stakeholders and fans across the state as they pursue greater achievements.
