The Democratic Front (TDF) has described the reported commendation by United States President Donald Trump on President Bola Tinubu’s counter-terrorism efforts as a strong endorsement of the administration’s determination to restore security across Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group said the message from the US President was a significant affirmation of Tinubu’s commitment to combating terrorism and making the country safer.

According to TDF, the commendation came at a period when the Federal Government’s security operations against terrorism and banditry, as well as efforts to promote stability across the West African sub-region, had intensified.

The group argued that Trump’s remarks also dispelled what it described as earlier misinformation about Nigeria’s security situation.

“It is of importance for us to note that Trump’s commendation came at a time President Tinubu’s aggressive pursuit of peace and security in Nigeria and the West African sub region is at a record high,” the statement said.

TDF further claimed that previous threats by the US President to intervene militarily in Nigeria were fuelled by “disinformation and negative propaganda” allegedly propagated by political interests seeking to damage Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with the United States.

According to the group, the latest development highlighted Tinubu’s diplomatic approach in managing tensions between both countries while safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.

It also credited the administration with initiating diplomatic engagements that strengthened bilateral relations and enhanced security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

The group said the military collaboration between the two countries, particularly in intelligence sharing and precision targeting, had contributed to disrupting terrorist camps operating around Nigeria’s borders with Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic.

TDF maintained that recent gains against terrorism and banditry were reflected in what it described as a reduction in security breaches across the country.

“It is fascinating to further acknowledge that the effectiveness of the US military precision strikes in neutralizing terrorists in Nigeria has shown remarkable improvement in the intelligence capabilities of Nigeria’s security and defense forces on the watch of President Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief,” the statement added.

The organisation also described Trump’s reported commendation as further validation of what it called the Tinubu administration’s achievements in tackling insecurity since assuming office in May 2023.

TDF argued that the development undermined opposition narratives on the country’s security situation ahead of the 2027 general election.

It urged Nigerians to reject attempts to politicise insecurity, insisting that national security should remain a collective responsibility rather than an issue for partisan contest.
