The Women Parliament of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has welcomed the publication of Prince Adewole Adebayo’s name by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s presidential candidate, describing it as a major boost to the party’s preparations for the next presidential election.
The group said the development reinforces the SDP’s resolve to present Nigerians with a credible political alternative anchored on good governance, social justice and the rule of law.
In a statement signed in Abuja by the National Speaker of the SDP Women Parliament, Ambassador Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi, the women leaders described the recognition of Adebayo and his running mate, Dr. Usman Mohammed Bugaje, as a significant milestone for the party.
Abdullahi said the publication of the party’s presidential ticket reflected the commitment of the National Working Committee (NWC) to due process and had further strengthened confidence in the party’s leadership and internal democratic culture.
According to her, the official recognition of the ticket demonstrates the party’s readiness to offer Nigerians leadership focused on good governance, economic prosperity, social justice and national development.
“The official publication of the party’s presidential ticket, comprising Prince Adewole Adebayo and his running mate, Dr. Usman Mohammed Bugaje, shows the SDP’s preparedness to present Nigerians with leadership founded on good governance, social justice, economic prosperity and the rule of law,” she said.
The SDP Women Parliament expressed confidence in Adebayo’s ability to provide purposeful leadership, saying he possesses the competence, vision and integrity required to tackle the country’s challenges and drive national renewal.
The group also commended INEC for conducting the nomination process in line with the principles of fairness, transparency and due process.
It added that the growing acceptance of the SDP across the country reflects Nigerians’ increasing desire for a credible political platform committed to inclusive governance and accountability.
Abdullahi called on women, youths, party members and supporters to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.
She urged members of the party to focus on issue-based campaigns and effectively communicate the SDP’s programmes and vision for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
The SDP Women Parliament Speaker also appealed to Nigerians to pray for Adebayo, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, good health and guidance as he prepares for the presidential race.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the SDP Women Parliament to mobilising women across the country in support of the party’s programmes and its presidential ticket.
