PTAD Pays N3.82bn Pension Arrears to 30,356 Retirees

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed ₦3.82 billion in accrued pension arrears to 30,356 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), following a review of outstanding entitlements.

The payment, which amounts to ₦3,817,568,592.80, covers pensioners across the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD), Defunct and Transferred Agencies Pension Department (DTAPD), and Tertiary, Education and Health Pension Department (TEHPD).

PTAD said the funds represented arrears arising from its Back-End Computation (BEC) Review Exercise, undertaken to address complaints from DBS pensioners over pension computations and outstanding entitlements.

The exercise is part of the Directorate’s efforts to verify pension records, resolve discrepancies and settle legitimate obligations owed to retirees under its mandate.

The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, expressed appreciation to the affected pensioners for their cooperation during the review process, assuring them that the Directorate would continue to prioritise timely and transparent payment of verified entitlements.

She said the latest disbursement reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing outstanding pension-related issues and improving pension administration under the Defined Benefit Scheme.

According to her, the payment also demonstrated the commitment of the administration of President Bola Tinubu to resolving pension challenges affecting retirees.

Odunaiya reaffirmed PTAD’s determination to sustain engagement with DBS pensioners and ensure that legitimate complaints and outstanding claims are addressed through established processes.

The Directorate said it would continue to strengthen its systems for efficient, transparent and accountable administration of the Defined Benefit Scheme.

The latest payment brings relief to thousands of pensioners whose outstanding arrears arose from discrepancies identified in their pension computations, with PTAD maintaining that only verified entitlements are settled following its review processes.

The agency also encouraged continued engagement by DBS pensioners as it works to resolve outstanding pension-related complaints and improve service delivery.
