Police Rescue 75 Kidnap Victims in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 75 victims abducted by gunmen at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari, in the state.

The victims, comprising Fulani men, women and children travelling in commercial buses, were reportedly kidnapped by armed men wielding AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2026, after the Kaduna Police Command received information from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at about 5:30 p.m.

According to the command, the gunmen took the victims into a forest and concealed them inside a cave located in a mountainous area.

Following the alert, a team of police operatives from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location.

The command said the arrival of the operatives forced the kidnappers to flee, abandoning their captives, who were subsequently rescued unharmed.

The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW branch in Birnin Gwari for promptly providing the information that enabled the police to respond to the incident.

He also praised the Birnin Gwari Area Commander and his operatives for their swift and professional intervention, which led to the safe recovery of the victims.

The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

Muhammad also cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, warning that such actions could result in the loss of innocent lives.

He assured residents that the command would continue to work with communities and other stakeholders to strengthen security and protect lives and property across the state.
