Parts of Abuja to Face 9-Hour Power Outage as TCN Repairs Katampe Transformer

Parts of Abuja are expected to experience a nine-hour power outage on Saturday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out urgent maintenance on a transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation.

The maintenance is scheduled to begin at 10am and end at 7pm, according to a statement issued by the management of TCN.

The company in a statement signed by its management on Saturday said its maintenance crew would work on one of the transformers at the 330/132/33kV Katampe Transmission Substation to seal an oil leakage.

TCN explained that some transmission circuits would be affected during the exercise, resulting in an interruption of electricity supply to customers connected to the affected feeders.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to offtake electricity from some of the feeders supplied by the affected transformer while the maintenance lasts.

The disruption is expected to affect electricity consumers served by those feeders during the nine-hour maintenance window.

TCN said the repair had become necessary to address the oil leakage and maintain the reliability of the transformer and transmission facility.

The company appealed to affected consumers to bear with the temporary interruption, assuring them that the exercise was scheduled to last only for the period required to complete the maintenance.

“TCN apologises for any inconvenience this temporary interruption may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” the management said.

The company also said its maintenance team would work within the scheduled period to complete the intervention and restore normal transmission operations.
