Nigerian-British Businessman Dies After Penis Enlargement Procedure

A Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died after a penis enlargement procedure during a luxury holiday in Thailand.

Ubiribo, 43, reportedly suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism after doctors injected a filler into his penis at a clinic in Bangkok.

An inquest in the United Kingdom heard that the businessman, also known by the names “Tiny”, “Denisi” and “Ego”, travelled to Thailand with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen.

The couple stayed at a Marriott hotel in Bangkok during the trip in March when Ubiribo decided to undergo the cosmetic procedure.

Medical evidence presented at the inquest showed that doctors injected about 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine into his penis.

Ubiribo and his wife later returned to their hotel and went for a massage. He developed chest pain during the session before collapsing and losing consciousness.

He was taken to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he initially responded to medical personnel.

His wife informed doctors about the recent penis filler treatment, raising concerns that the procedure could have contributed to his condition.

Doctors suspected a pulmonary embolism and recommended further scans. Ubiribo, however, lost consciousness before they could complete the examination.

Medical staff transferred him to intensive care and carried out prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an effort to save his life.

He was eventually pronounced dead in the early hours of March 6.

Postmortem examination later provided further clues about the cause of death. Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that doctors found material in Ubiribo’s lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.

The finding supported the conclusion that the cosmetic injection had contributed to a pulmonary embolism.

Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently ruled that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic injection.

A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot or other material blocks a blood vessel supplying the lungs. The condition can quickly cause breathing problems, strain the heart and lead to death.

Evidence from Ubiribo’s London doctor also showed that he had previously undergone joint surgeries and had been described as pre-diabetic and suffering from gout.

His doctor, however, reportedly said he had no other major medical conditions.

Hyaluronic acid penis fillers are promoted as a non-surgical way to increase penile girth. Medical experts have warned that injectable cosmetic procedures can still cause serious complications.

Ubiribo had built a large social media following by documenting his luxury lifestyle. He had about 185,000 followers on Instagram.

He reportedly owned a home in Los Angeles valued at about $1.1 million and an apartment in London worth around $600,000.

The businessman married Zimbabwean fashion designer Danielle Simba Allen in a lavish ceremony in 2022.

His death later attracted attention during his funeral in London, where he was buried in a gold coffin in an elaborate ceremony reportedly costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Afrobeats star Davido, who was described as Ubiribo’s childhood friend, attended the funeral and paid tribute to the businessman.
