TCN Announces Temporary Power Disruption in Dutse Alhaji, Zuba, Others for Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power disruption in parts of the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring Niger State communities as it carries out its annual maintenance of the 132kV Katampe–Gwarinpa Transmission Line 1.

The exercise will take place on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, between 10:00am and 4:00pm at the 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation.

In a statement signed on Monday by the management of TCN, the company said its maintenance crew would carry out preventive work on the 132kV Katampe–Gwarinpa Transmission Line 1 bay switchgear and associated equipment.

The maintenance will affect electricity supply to several communities because the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to take electricity from the transmission network during the exercise.

Areas expected to experience the disruption include parts of Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji and Gwarinpa, as well as parts of Kubwa, Arab Road and Bwari.

Other affected locations include Mopol Barracks, parts of Jiwa and environs, Suleja Township, the FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla and Zuba.

TCN said the maintenance forms part of its annual preventive programme aimed at keeping transmission infrastructure in good working condition and improving the reliability of electricity supply.

The company appealed to electricity consumers in the affected areas to bear with the disruption while the maintenance work continues.

“TCN apologizes for the inconvenience this power disruption will cause electricity customers in the affected areas,” the management said.

The company advised affected residents and businesses to make necessary arrangements for the temporary interruption, which is scheduled to last for six hours.

The maintenance exercise is expected to end by 4:00pm, after which normal electricity supply arrangements can resume, subject to the operational status of the network and AEDC distribution facilities.
