Obi-Kwankwaso Movement Unveils 59-Member Campaign Council

The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has unveiled a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council as it steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The council brings together zonal and state coordinators, alongside officials overseeing mobilisation, women affairs, strategy, security, legal affairs and other areas.

The structure covers the six geopolitical zones, the Federal Capital Territory and all 36 states.

John Ughulu, Director-General of the movement, will head the campaign council as Director-General. National Secretary, Saadatu Sani will also serve in the campaign leadership.

The six zonal coordinators are Suleiman Abubakar for North-Central, Hashimu Dungurawa for North-West and Amadu Gwambe for North-East.

Others are Adebayo Adefolaseye for South-West, Christopher Ighodaro for South-South and El-Shaddai Ikeh for South-East.

The movement also named coordinators for the 36 states and the FCT. The appointments form part of its plan to extend its activities to local government areas, wards and communities.

Other members include Sabo Gashua, Director of Grassroots Mobilisation; Glory Adayi, Director of Women Affairs; and Kabir Yahaya, Director of Contact and Engagement.

Abdumumini Tijjani will oversee Mobilisation, while Yusuf Mani will handle Special Duties. Peace Daful was named Director of Procurement.

Prof. Charles Nwekeaku will head the South-Eastern Town Hall, while Sunmisola Adebayo will oversee Information Technology.

Kingdom Okere will handle Legal Affairs, with Abiodun Dabiri taking charge of Strategy and Planning.

Richard Enemona, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police, will oversee Security and Intelligence. Aisha Abdulrahaman will serve as Director of Administration.

In a message to the appointees, Sani described their assignments as a call to duty and service.

She urged members to work collectively to take the message and programme of the movement’s principals, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to Nigerians across the country.

The movement said the council would focus on grassroots engagement and communication from major cities to local government areas, wards and communities.

The unveiling comes amid the group’s decision to maintain an independent organisational structure rather than merge with another political organisation.

A recent report by TheCable quoted the movement as saying its council does not replace the presidential campaign council of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, which the party is expected to constitute separately.

The movement’s latest structure is centred on the joint political project involving Obi and Kwankwaso.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s published final list for the 2027 presidential election identifies Obi as the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate.

The two politicians contested the 2023 presidential election separately. Obi ran on the Labour Party platform, while Kwankwaso contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Their supporters have since worked around a joint political platform ahead of the 2027 election.

The campaign council now gives the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement a formal nationwide organisational structure ahead of the election.

The movement has also expanded its grassroots activities in recent months, while continuing to present itself as a support organisation for the joint ticket.

The development comes as political parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the electoral timetable published by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
