Kidnapped Sokoto students regain freedom after 13 days

The 15 students abducted at a Qur’anic school in Sokoto State have regained their freedom.

The students were kidnapped at Gidan Bakuso village in Gada Local Government Area of the State on March 9, 2024 while running into their rooms to escape attack on the community.

Liman Abubakar, the proprietor of the school, had narrated how bandits invaded the town, shot one person, and abducted a woman before attacking the school.

The abducted students were reportedly rescued by troops of the Nigerian army.

Ahmed Rufai, Sokoto police spokesperson, confirmed that the victims were rescued during military operations.

On Friday, the students visited Ahmad Aliyu, governor of Sokoto, at the government house.

The question of whether ransom was paid or not still remains unclear, as the family of the abducted students had previously said bandits demanded N20 million as ransom.
