Chad’s President Urges Increased Vigilance in Libya and Niger, Highlights Urgent Needs

Chad’s President, Mahmat Deby, has emphasized the need for increased vigilance along the Tibesti state, which shares borders with Libya and Niger. He called on regional forces to actively contribute to the protection of the border, its people, and their properties.

Deby’s visit to the border coincided with clashes between the Chadian army and rebel fighters from the FACT group, who had taken refuge in Libyan territory.

Meanwhile, forces led by Khalifa Haftar initiated a military operation in southern Libya last Friday with the aim of expelling foreign armed groups from the Chad border.

Al-Mismari justified the operation by highlighting the political and security tensions faced by Libya’s neighboring nations, which have weakened their ability to control their borders. This situation has facilitated the movement of terrorist cells and criminal organizations.

On August 19, FACT reported that three of its fighters had been killed and four others injured in an airstrike on their base. They attributed the attack to the Chadian army, targeting one of their strongholds within Libyan territory.
