Plateau NMA distances self from “doctor” arrested for organ harvesting.
Joel Oladele, Abuja
The Plateau State chapter of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has distanced itself from a doctor, Noah Kekere, who was recently arrested for allegedly harvesting a woman’s kidney in his hospital in Jos.
National Periscope had earlier reported that Kekere was arrested a week ago after a businessman, Alhaji Kamal, accused him of removing his wife’s kidney during a surgery in 2018 and leaving the woman in pain for the last five years.
It was also gathered that the suspect is currently under psychiatric care at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), as he exhibited symptoms of mental illness on Saturday.
Reacting to the incident in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of NMA in the state, Dr Bapigaan William Audu, and the association’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Istifanus Bintum Bako, said investigations into the matter have revealed that Kekere is not a medical doctor.
The statement reads in part, “This is to inform the general public and all concerned that Mr. Noah Kekere, who is currently being investigated over allegations of organ harvesting, is not a medical doctor.
“Diligent investigations by the association have revealed that he is a quack pretending to be a doctor. Further information will be made available following the conclusion of the investigative processes initiated by the NMA as well as the Nigeria Police respectively.”

The association therefore called on all members and the general public to remain calm, as it’s on top of the issue and assisting the police to get to the root of the matter in due time.
However, netizens have raised questions on how someone could operate freely for over 25 years as a quack doctor without being caught.
According to some residents of Jos, the accused doctor popularly known as ‘Yellow’ had been in the community for more than 25 years, operating as a doctor, adding that hundreds of patients used to troop to the hospital for medical attention because he charged less compared to other medical centres, and that he could perform an operation on credit.
