SDP reinforces National, Zonal structures

•as Asuquo, Theman get fresh appointment

As part of efforts  to strengthen and strongly reposition the Party for its next growth phase, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the appointment into the national leadership of the Party, Mrs Rosemary Asuquo Effiong as the new Secretary, Labour, and Civil Society. 

Also, Hon. (Pharm.) Wafarninyi Theman was appointed as the new National Vice-Chairman, North-East Zone. 

In a statement electronically signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party,

Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba on Thursday, he disclosed that the appointments were confirmed after the party’s meeting on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

According to Aiyenigba , Rosemary is fit for the job as her track records are enough evidence to prove that.

“The new NWC Member, Mrs Rosemary Asuquo Effiong comes well-prepared and is undoubtedly highly suited for her new role. As a trained banking and finance executive, diplomat, educationist, and 

administrator, she has an impressive pedigree of being a renowned social development expert and a highly sought-after public policy strategist with an outstanding record of extensive work experience.

” She has served variously, as: UNICEF State Education Facilitator for Girls Education Project III (Kano and Jigawa); State Education Facilitator for Educate A Child funded by DFID and Qatar Foundation; Katsina

State Project Coordinator for Girls Education Programme III (GEP3), UNICEF-Nigeria; Secretary to Girls 

Education Coordinating Committee for MDAs, United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF); 

“Project implementation with World Bank and UNICEF (education, FADAMA and Community Social Development Projects, CSDP), National Coordinator, CSOs platform with the World Bank among many other strategic responsibilities in policy development, policy review, program implementation and facilitation.

“Mrs Rosemary Asuquo Effiong is a Member of National Technical Working Group of Nigerian Girl-Child Education Initiative (NGEI) and also a Member, The National 100-Women Group in Abuja – inaugurated by Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

“The group is responsible for mobilizing women politicians at the National, Zonal and State levels for active and effective participation in politics, among other terms of reference.

“Mrs Rosemary Asuquo Effiong is Chairperson-Nigeria Chapter, Coalition for 

Non-State Actors (CNC-Nigeria) working with African Union Commission (AUC) since 2016 till date.” Aiyenigba stated.

The SDP Spokesperson added that the coming on board of Mrs Asuquo will in no small measure contribute to the development of the party.

“Ahead of the next general election, the coming on board the SDP NWC of Mrs Rosemary Asuquo Effiong signals great good for value-addition, growth, and enhanced capacity for goal-attainment, and as the go-to political party. 

“She is an additional influencer and bastion of hope for greater women participation in politics and the SDP resetting agenda for Nigeria ahead of the next general elections.”

Reeling out the profile of Hon. (Pharm.) Wafarninyi Theman, Ayenigba said he will bring a remarkable pedigree and a strong sense of duty to the party.

“Hon. (Pharm.) Wafarninyi Theman (Dallatu Hong), the new National Vice-Chairman, North-East, is an 

astute agent of global social change, Fellow of Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC) and Chartered Institute of Arts Management and Professionals (FIAP).

“He was an APC governorship aspirant in the 2023 general elections in Adamawa State. “As a House of Assembly Member, he succeeded in enviably etching his name in gold in the annals of the socio-economic and political history of Adamawa State. He disclosed that the two new appointments take immediate effect and are in acting capacities to be ratified at the Party’s next National Executive Committee meeting..
