Nigerian First Lady says Investing in girl child is good for the nation.
The Nigerian First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has stated that investing in the girl child is in the best interest of the nation.
Speaking yesterday at the National Girls Interactive Session with Policy and Decision Makers to commemorate the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child in Abuja, the wife of the Presy underlined the need to protect the girl child from all forms of violence and provide a safe and inclusive environment for her to thrive.
Oluremi canvassed proper traditional and cultural orientation, just as she advised girls and boys to enlist in voluntary clubs.
She restated the current administration’s vision for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and her dreams for the future of the Nigerian girl.
The theme of this year’s celebration was: “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership & Our Well-being.”
In her remarks, Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, assured Nigerians that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring that harmful and discriminatory practices against the girl child are totally eliminated.
She stated that it is no more fashionable to sexually assault girls, warning that government would swiftly prosecute offenders.
The minister pointed out that the case of the eight-year-old allegedly abused by her step father had been taken up by her ministry.
