2026 World cup: Lesotho Crocodiles storm Uyo for battle with Super Eagles

The national football team of Lesotho, nicknamed the Crocodiles, have arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Led by coach Leslie Notsi, the 23 players and nine officials received a warm welcome from the Akwa Ibom State Football Normalisation Committee upon touching down at the Victor Attah International Airport on Tuesday.

The visiting delegation was thereafter transported to the upscale Ibom Hotel and Resorts, which will serve as the team’s camp for the duration of their stay. The Crocodiles are scheduled to hold their first training session later today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as they fine-tune preparations and strategies before facing the Super Eagles.

With Nigeria boasting home advantage, the pressure is on Lesotho to pull off an upset victory against a side they have not beaten in over two decades. Coach Notsi remains quietly confident that his talented squad, sprinkled with stars plying their trade in South Africa’s top league, have the quality to shock the hosts.

The Super Eagles, however, are taking nothing for granted and promising to give their enthusiastic home fans a result to celebrate.

Lesotho will face the Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Thursday while they host the Squirrels of Benin Republic in a matchday two fixture at the Moses Mahbida Stadium next week Tuesday.
