Tackle kidnappings, others- Afenifere charges Tinubu, security agents
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, yesterday, expressed deep concern over the spate of internal security breaches in various parts of the country, urging President Bola Tinubu and relevant security agencies to tackle the menace.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the organisation raised concerns over the gruesome murder of a 62-year-old grandmother, Iyanuoluwa Adamolekun, at her Similoluwa area, Agbaluku Arigidi Akoko in Ondo State, kidnapping incidents in Saki, Okaka, Ipapo and Oke-Ogun in Oyo State, Fulani herders’ attack on farmers in Afon, Ipokia in Ogun State, Iwere-Ile, Komu and Otu in Oyo State, amputation of a 12-year-old Fulani boy in Mayaki, Niger State and the killing of Rev. David Musa of the ECWA in Obajana, Kogi State, on October 14, 2023, among others.
It, however, commended the Nigerian Army in its fight against Boko Haram insurgents as well as the National Security Adviser to the President, Nuhu Ribadu.
The spokesman of the organisation added that the task at hand requires the strengthening and empowerment of the bodies constitutionally charged with the responsibility of ensuring internal security, especially the police.
