‘Disheartening’ — reactions as Lagos church invites Portable, Pasuma for praise night

A Lagos-based church has stirred up controversies after unveiling Portable and Wasiu ‘Pasuma‘ Alabi, the Fuji musician, as guest artistes for an upcoming programme.

In a social media post, the Celestial Church of Christ, Land of Goshen, announced its praise night featuring three guest artistes.

The church revealed that Pasuma, May Shua, and Portable will headline the music concert.

In the now-viral flier, the church said the event, scheduled for December 15, will mark its seventh anniversary.

The announcement has, however, triggered a wave of reactions from some Nigerians online.

Some users took to Facebook to make known their displeasure with the post, describing it as ‘disheartening’.

Others wondered if the “house of God is now a place of entertainment” while asking if the invited artists would be able to sing spiritual songs at the concert.

Another set of netizens argued that the invitation was extended to the singers to appeal to a part of the church congregation.

“I’m not surprised and I can’t judge my fellow man. This is the celestial doing but we’re not preaching the Gospel with this if I may say. So disheartening,” one user wrote.

Another user commented: “God will have mercy on you people. The House of God is now a place of entertainment.”
