Ohanaeze Ndigbo cautions against obstruction of Nnamdi Kanu’s release
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has cautioned against the clandestine activities of individuals and groups who are obstructing and frustrating the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained IPOB leader.
This was disclosed yesterday by Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who asserted that the identities of these individuals and groups will be exposed to the public if they continue their nefarious activities that impede the release of Nnamdi Kanu by December 15, 2023.
Among these groups are some leaders of Biafra agitators who have resorted to criminalizing the Biafra struggle through hysteria and violence, seeking quick fame and fortunes. Additionally, political elites, including two Southeast Governors, senators, and Igbo leaders, are working behind the scenes to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu is only transferred to Kuje Prisons instead of being released outright, citing the upcoming Anambra Gubernatorial elections.
In a statement, Isiguzoro said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo passionately calls on President Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu by dropping all charges against him and allowing him to immediately return to the United Kingdom after his release. President Tinubu is urged to resist all pressures and prioritize the unity of the country over other considerations, facilitating the release of Nnamdi Kanu next week. If necessary, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is prepared to present two respected sureties, a revered Igbo Elder and a clergyman, to support the release.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses implicit confidence in the integrity of the Supreme Court and faith in the judiciary’s ability to dispense justice as the hope of the common man. The obstruction of Nnamdi Kanu’s release not only undermines justice but also fuels tensions and hinders progress in the Southeast region.
“We urge all those involved to halt their activities and join the call for peace and unity. The release of Nnamdi Kanu will not only contribute to a peaceful atmosphere especially during this Christmas and New Year’s Holidays but also demonstrate a commitment to justice and the welfare of the Igbo people,” he said.
