Soyinka meets Tinubu, says he’ll assess his administration after one year in office
Wole Soyinka, the Nobel laureate, says he will assess the administration of President Bola Tinubu after his one year in office.
Soyinka spoke on Sunday after he paid a courtesy visit to Tinubu in Lagos.
Speaking with journalists, Soyinka said based on his usual practice for assessment of presidents, he will only assess Tinubu’s administration after one year in office.
Soyinka said he had observed that Nigerian presidents usually commence their administrations from “lower than ground zero”.
“They often start even lower than ground zero and they have to make up.
“So I have this personal policy, whether it is Obasanjo, Jonathan or Buhari, in the first year, I will never say anything.
“So, I’m adopting the same principle this time. At the end of one year, ask the same question again and listen to my answer.”
Soyinka added that he had asked Tinubu not to contest for president in 2023 and to leave the political scene for young Nigerians.
