FG announces three-month job opportunities for humanitarian workers in Plateau

The federal government has announced a three-month job opening for humanitarian workers residing in Plateau state.

In a statement on Friday, Betta Edu, minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, said the employment opportunity is part of the New Year’s plan and the ministry’s commitment  to create more jobs for millions of Nigerians.

The minister said successful applicants would be deployed to crisis areas to ease the humanitarian response in the locations.

She said the employment is for the duration of three months, noting  that the period could be extended to six months or one year, depending on the success rate.

“As part of the new year’s plans, the ministry will be hiring temporal Humanitarian aid workers and deploying them to every  location where there are humanitarian crises going forward,” she said.

“This will not only reduce unemployment but will improve our response time and the quality of response going forward.

“These people will be hired for three months in the first instance, and if the crisis is protracted, they may be made to stay 6 months or one-year maximum.”

The minister said applicants with skills and  experience in humanitarian crisis situation would have a greater advantage.

She added that more relief materials which include food and non-food items have been received in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu LGAs of Plateau.

Communities in the three LGAs had experienced attacks that resulted in the killing of over 100 residents in the past week.

Also speaking, Edward Gabkwet, spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), said they will support the humanitarian ministry in lifting relief items and aid workers to crisis-affected states.

Gabkwet, who represented Hasan Abubakar,  chief of air staff, said the partnership is in line with the civil military relations service.

“Beyond security, the Nigerian Air Force provides humanitarian support to communities working with relevant government MDA’s,” he added.
