SuperSport makes U-turn, set to show AFCON 2023

SuperSport channels on DSTV and GOtv will now air all 52 matches of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire live beginning on Saturday, 13 January 2024.

MultiChoice had last week said the SuperSport channel on DSTV would not be able to broadcast the AFCON tournament live.

The company had, in a statement, said it would not be able to broadcast the tournament live because it did not secure the rights to broadcast it.

“SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2024, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels,” MultiChoice had said.

However, making a U-turn on its earlier decision Wednesday via X, @DstvNg announced that it will broadcast all 52 matches on Supersports.

“No gree for anybody! Watch all 52 matches of the #afcon2023    on @supersports,” it tweeted.

Earlier the Nigerian Television Authority, on Wednesday, announced it would be transmitting all the 52 AFCON matches.

The Africa’s largest TV network made this known on its X handle, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports.

It tweeted, “NTA signs Memorandum of Understanding with Afro Sports for transmission of 52 matches of Africa Cup Of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.”
