Ondo: Gov. Aiyedatiwa launches disbursement of N1.2b cheque to pensioners
Ondo state Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has launched the distribution of N1.2 billion cheques for pensioners’ gratuity in the State.
The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale called for a minute silence to honour the departed governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, during the event which took place on Thursday at Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure.
Ale noted that the event marked a significant stride in addressing the long-standing concerns of retired workers awaiting settlement of gratuity backlogs.
Highlighting government’s people-friendly approach, the governor announced the approval of a substantial N1.2 billion gratuity payment for 2014 retirees, demonstrating a proactive stand toward supporting pensioners.
He recounted the challenges inherited by the administration in 2017, stating that the seven months outstanding salaries and pensions inherited in 2017 were gradually being cleared.
He stressed the significance of disbursing N3.9 billion in 2013 to retirees, distinguishing the state’s commitment compared to other regions.
“This gesture is evidence to how much we care about both retirees and those still in the civil service. We urge others retirees to be patient as the government works on further initiatives.”
Addressing the ongoing security concerns, he refuted rumours of hoodlums taking over some parts of the state, asserting the efficacy of the security architecture, Amotekun.
He assured the public that Amotekun is diligently working day and night to maintain order and reaffirmed government’s dedication to continued infrastructural development in the state, despite the challenges posed by recent events.
The Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele in his commendation said “Governor Aiyedatiwa is passionate and committed to the welfare of the senior citizens of the state.”
He noted that this gesture will further solidify the administration’s dedication to the welfare of citizens.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mr. Temidayo Olofingoroye expressed gratitude to the governor, acknowledging the swift translation of promises into action.
“It hasn’t even been a month since you assumed office, and we are already witnessing positive changes. This signals the beginning of a promising era. With the governor steering the ship, I confidently say we are indeed lucky in Ondo State.”
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the State Pension Transition Department, earlier in his speech, Abiodun Akinseloyin reinforced the government’s commitment, noting that these category of retirees are not receiving fractions but full payment of their gratuity.
This statement underscored the administration’s dedication to providing substantial support to retirees, ensuring their financial well-being.
