The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa has added another feather to his cap by winning the Great Achievers Initiative Award for Youth and Community Development (GAIYD).

Great Achievers Initiative is an NGO that focuses on community and human development, with special attention on  male child.

Presenting the award recently in Abuja in company of his team, the Chief Executive Officer of GAIYD, Amb. Hillary Akpua, noted that the award is in recognition of Barr. Ezeokenwa’s positive contributions towards human development.

In his remarks, the awardee expressed joy and gratitude for being found worthy of such a prestigious award and promised full support and partnership for the initiative.

Commending the organization, Ezeokenwa noted that male child has suffered neglect for too long, adding that without adequate attention being given to them, efforts putting into developing young females will be counterproductive.

“It is a privilege and honor to have been considered worthy, even to be nominated in the first place for such a prestigious award and then to eventually emerge as a recipient of the award and for me, it’s not something I take lightly.

“I’ve tried as much as possible to inquire into the organization, Great Achievers Initiative and I must commend your objectives and agenda to enhancing male child empowerment. It’s quite commendable.”  APGA chair noted.

He added that; “We live in a world where emphasis has been on the girl child, we have the ministry of Women Development but as far as I’m concerned, as we are trying to protect the interest of the female gender in the society, let us not lose sight of the fact that majority of young men are out there on the street engaging in one vice or the other and if we don’t prioritize their education and invest in their human capacity development, I think in the nearest future, there is no way or a better way we can fight crime.

“If we want to fight crime and brutality, the best way is to prioritize the education of the male child. And that’s why I commend your organization for taking that bull by the horn.

“You’ve taken the initiative to pay more emphasis on the education of male child. It’s quite commendable and I can assure you that as a political party, we are going to partner.

“So, I thank you for considering me for this award and if there is anyway I can contribute, probably in terms of being an icon or a model, or whatever it is,..” he promised.

Speaking to our correspondent,  Amb. Hillary said the team looks forward to creating more awareness for the male child
