Edo 2024: Agbomere promises good governance

Joel Oladele, Abuja

One of the governorship aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Blessing Agbomere has assured the people of Edo of good governance if given the opportunity to serve them.

Agbomere disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the submission of his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the national secretariat of the party on Tuesday.

The former APC South-South Zonal Organising Secretary noted that although he has what it takes to transform the state, his ambition is not a do or die affair.

He added that his major motivation is to alleviate the current level of hardship in the state which he claimed is as a result of bad governance.

“For me, it is not a do or die for me. Because if I apply for a job in an office and I am hired, I will be grateful and I will work to the best of my ability to serve. But, if I am not employed, I will not break or kill the office because of anybody. I will go and look for another job.  And don’t forget I have been doing well for myself as a private individual. I have never been in any government position.

” So contesting today, it is because I am pregnant with ideas. And I have seen Edo people complaining about misgovernance and bad government. So I am offering myself to say I have the ability, capacity to deliver the dividends to Edo people if given the opportunity. I am asking again to work for Edo people. So if I am hired God be the glory, I will work for Edo people”, he noted.

Speaking on zoning, Agbomere said both Edo North and Central have the capacity to deliver Edo to the APC stressing that he is not afraid of any zone because he has what it takes to lead the people to victory if the party and Edo people give him the opportunity.

“I don’t think I am afraid of any of these stories. I have read so many stories. The truth of the matter is that Edo is one big family.  We know that the Benins have the highest concentration of voting population in Edo state. But let us not also forget that Benin is the capital of Edo state. So you have people from Edo north who live in Benin. You have people from Edo Central who live in Benin and vote there.

” You have the Yoruba community, Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, etc. So Edo south is centered around Benin, a cosmopolitan area which has settlements of people. That doesn’t mean if they want to vote for a Benin man, Afemai they won’t.  So Benin is saturated with different people with different ideologies. All of this person believes in capacity.

” And they believe in a patriot who will solve the problems of Edo State because the problem of Edo are not particular to a specific race in Edo. Just the way a Benin man is suffering so also an Afemai or Esan man is suffering.  What they want is solution.  Someone who can provide solutions.

” If it is an Edo north man that has the solution, Edo people are ready to vote for him most especially knowing that Godwin Obaseki, the current Governor is from Benin in Edo south. So, it is always necessary for the ticket to go to other areas. I believe in merit not areas. I believe in capacity. If it is an Edo man like Blessing Agbomere that has the capacity to provide leadership that will empower Edo people, that will create wealth for Edo people.

” It is necessary and very important for us to support an Edo north person in my person. I can tell you that I am the best candidate in this race. I am the best patriot in this race. The only person who has not benefited from government. I have been using my own private and personal resources to help Edo people. Now I want to use their own resources to help them”, he stated.
