African Games: Tobi Amusan sets new record, wins 3rd consecutive gold

Nigeria’s sprint star, Tobi Amusan, continued her dominance of the Women’s 100m hurdle with impressive display at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana, crossing the finish line in 12.29 seconds to win her third conservative gold medal.

The world record holder clocked 12.89 seconds to finish far ahead of her close rival, Sidonie Fiadanantsoa of Madagascar who finished in 13.19 seconds and Zimbabwe’s Kamangirira Ashley Tinashe in 13.59 seconds at the University of Ghana on Wednesday’s night.

Following her triumphs in Brazzaville 2015, Rabat 2019, and today in Accra 2023, the world record holder extends her record of being the only athlete to have won it more than twice.

Amusan faced the scare of disqualification after she suffered a false-start during the first attempt to commence the race.

However, she was let off the hook by the officials, who issued her a yellow card instead.

The victory was Amusan’s third consecutive African Games title.
