Lagos Police nab dispatch rider for stealing N1.7m worth of phones

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a 27-year-old dispatch rider for allegedly stealing three iPhones, worth N1.7 million for dispatch to the owners.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this in a post on the RRS Lagos X handle, on Sunday.

He remarked that the suspect was arrested at Apha Beach, Lagos, after being on the run for eight months.

Hundeyin stated, “The 27-year-old year-old dispatch rider also known as Mr Lemon, was arrested at Alpha Beach, Lagos after eight months on the run.

He, however, said, “Odah on August 23, 2023, while working as a dispatch rider collected one iPhone 14 ProMax (128 GB) and two iPhone 11 (128 and 68 GB) meant for delivery to a customer in Lekki, Lagos”.

He added, “Odah on collecting the consignment, bolted and switched off his phone.

However, a sustained discreet investigation into the matter led to his arrest at Lemon Bus Stop, Alpha Beach, Lagos.

The suspect confessed to having sold the three iPhones in Obalende for N300,000.

Meanwhile, the police image maker noted that arrested with the suspect were the two buyers while one of the iPhones was recovered.

Hundeyin said the suspects will be arraigned at the conclusion of investigations.
