Man allegedly kills wife over infidelity in Ekiti
A man identified as Dare Onipede has allegedly killed his wife, Kumapayi Arinola after the couple engaged in a brawl following accusation that the deceased was engaged in an extra marital affair.
Onipede allegedly stabbed the mother of three to death in the incident which occurred at Christ Avenue in the Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Saturday.
The couple, it was gathered, had sent the older of their two children living with them on an errand before locking themselves up in their apartment, and started fighting on the issue.
Onipede, who was said to be a law enforcement agent and his deceased wife, a chemist shop owner, had in the process stabbed each other with sharp objects.
A source who did not want her name in the print said, “They locked themselves up inside their apartment with their youngest child of about five years.
“The man confronted the deceased over allegations that she was cheating on him, a fight ensued leading him to stab his wife to death.
“At that moment, people had come to separate the fight only to meet the door to their apartment locked. When they could not break the door open, some of the people around removed some of the building ceiling to gain entry into their apartment.
“They met the deceased and her husband with injuries all over their bodies. The woman looked unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital but she gave up the ghost before they get to the hospital,” the source said.
She said the case has been reported at the police station and the man has been taken to an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment while being closely monitored by the police.
When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday.
“The matter has been reported. We received the information from their children and we are currently investigating it,” Abutu said.
