KDI Launches AI Tool For Accurate Electoral Information in Nigeria

As part of efforts to bring about an electoral revolution in Nigeria , the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), has launched NaijaElections, a cutting-edge AI-powered platform designed to transform the way Nigerians access and understand electoral information.
According to the newsletter released by the organization, a copy of which was made available to National Periscope, the innovative tool was recently unveiled at a grand event held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The platform, developed with the support of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to democratize access to accurate, reliable, and simplified electoral knowledge, empowering voters and fostering an inclusive democracy.
NaijaElections boasts advanced generative abilities, dynamically interpreting and distilling information from key electoral documents. The platform is also context-aware, providing tailored responses to users’ queries in real-time.
It also supports four languages – English, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo – catering to Nigeria’s diverse population.
National Periscope also gathered that the tool’s multilingual support and disability-friendly features make it accessible to all, including those with visual impairments. Users can save their conversation history for easy reference and seamless continuation of their learning journey.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth Developments, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim commended the initiative, noticing that it will go a long way in fostering an inclusive democracy.
“In an era where technology and information are pivotal, ensuring our young people have the tools and knowledge to engaging in the democratic process actively is essential.
“NaijaElections dismantles barriers to information, empowering voters and fostering an inclusive democracy as we celebrate 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria,” she said.

Re-echoing this, the Development Director at Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Cynthia Rowe said; “By promoting voter education and reliable information through NaijaElections, we are strengthening democracy in Nigeria and contributing to global democratic values.”
NaijaElections has the potential to transform confusion into clarity, empowering citizens with precise and accessible information to actively participate in shaping Nigeria’s democracy. The platform’s impact extends beyond just providing information; it also helps dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding elections. By promoting voter education and reliable information through NaijaElections, KDI is strengthening democracy in Nigeria and contributing to global democratic values.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling and demonstration of the NaijaElections generative AI tool. Participants had the opportunity to interact with the tool, asking it various questions and receiving accurate, concise responses.

The event brought together influential voices from various sectors, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Orientation Agency (NOA), and diplomatic communities.
