Tinubu reshuffles cabinet, merges ministries, scraps others

After months of growing calls for President Bola Tinubu to rejig his cabinet, the former Lagos State governor on Wednesday sacked five of his ministers.

He also re-assigned 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios and appointed seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.

According to a report from Presidency,  Tinubu appointed Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports
Commission, while Sunday Akin Dare was appointed as a Special Adviser to the
President on Public Communication and Orientation, working from the
Ministry of Information and National Orientation. 

The ministers sacked are Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof Tahir Mamman, SAN OON, Minister of Education; and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State, Housing and Urban and Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Federal Executive Committee (FEC) announced the dissolution of both the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) will now assume the duties previously managed by the sports ministry.

According to the FEC, the National Sports Commission (NSC) will take over the responsibility of the sports ministry.

Additionally, the FEC has approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

Meanwhile, a new Ministry of Regional Development will be created to oversee the activities of the newly created zonal development commissions.
